Bailey's Page

My name is Julie Newman and Beau is a 3yo Golden Retriever.  Beau and I started with Paw2Care in June of 05.  Beau passed his CGC at 8 mos but had to wait until his 1st birthday to be officially certified by Sherry.

I have always volunteered but I met a lady from Greenville on the DOGSTER website that had in her biography that she had a therapy dog and a bell went off, that was something I wanted to find out about.  I emailed her and she was a member of the group and she introduced me to Sherry and the rest is history.  I started at Charter and also attend the School for the Deaf and Blind.  The School for the Deaf is my favorite as I actually witnessed a miracle.

Sherry and I went to meet the Directors of the School on the first visit.  We had only the two dogs and did not think we would be meeting any students as this was just a meeting with the Director.  After we finished, the director asked if we had time to let some of the children meet the dogs.  Of course we did so off we went to the dorm.  The children were so excited so see us, but there was one little boy who was terrified.  This little boy was not only visually impaired but also autistic.  His RA would pick him up and bring him over and place his hand on Beau's head.  This happened over and over and then it was time to leave.  We told the children to come and tell the pups’ good bye and over came the little boy, this time by himself.  He was petting Beau, very softly on the side of his muzzle; Beau reached out and licked his hand.  The little boy jumped back and cried OOOHHH WEEE, and was grinning from ear to ear.  You could have heard the therapy working.
