Darcey
is my 1 ˝ year old Great Dane and she and I have been doing pet
therapy with Paws2Care since October of 2008. Darcey’s big “brother”
Caesar has been a therapy dog with Paws2Care since March of 2008, so
he told her all about what to expect.
Darcey is known as “the clown” in the group; she is shamelessly
goofy on visits. Before you know it she is on her back on the floor
begging to have her tummy rubbed, which looks ridiculous since she
weighs over 140 lbs! She loves to visit with the patients. Darcey
will go right up to the bedside and she is tall enough that patients
don’t need to bend down to pet her.
I became interested in pet therapy years ago when my oldest daughter
became very ill and spent several months in a hospital 2 ˝ hours
away from home. One of the few bright moments while in the hospital
was when the therapy dogs came to visit the children and their
families. I vowed that one day I would become involved with a pet
therapy group.

Paws2Care is a very special organization consisting of many
wonderful dog/handler teams. I feel so blessed to be part of this
group and to have two such wonderful therapy dogs.
